Beate Poikane

contact: [email protected]

Beate Poikāne is a Latvian visual artist, theatre maker, and scenographer. Her artistic explorations manifest in various visual forms at the intersection of visual art and contemporary theatre, creating self-performing environments and visual performances. Thematically, she explores how imagination relates to the experience of space, investigating how the ideas of fictional worlds are interlinked with the perception of the physical world. Spaces and sequences of sculptural objects are at the center of her compositions. Her works play with the decentralisation of human actors, introduce non-human performers, and shifting hierarchies of theatre elements. She holds an MA degree in Scenography and a BA degree in Visual Communication from the Art Academy of Latvia, and she is continuing her education in Performing Arts at Stockholm University of the Arts as part of the master’s program.
